Taking a Break

Hey everyone,

I know I haven't posted a lot these passed few weeks. Things have been really busy for me. So for the next long while, I'll be taking a break from the blog to concentrate on my other things. I'd feel more comfortable letting you know this way as opposed to just making it look like I'm leaving this alone. But at any rate, I wish you all the best of luck! Please follow me on Instagram at @virgiln22 and Twitter at @VirgilN22 for quicker looks at my going-ons.

Peace out, y'all!

Green Day x ¡Uno!

Earlier today, I tripped down to the mall right after it opened and grabbed Green Day's ninth studio album ¡Uno! After reading reviews and hearing the released tracks, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The entire CD is amazing and I encourage you punk rock fans to pick up a copy for yourself right now!

Since the super deluxe edition was sold out in minutes online, I grabbed the limited edition box for a few dollars more.

One down, two to go. Can't wait for ¡Dos! and ¡Tre!.

Made For Skate 2.0

Made For Skate is a book about the history of skateboard footwear. From the origins of Vans in 1966 to the puffy tongue bulkiness of the 90s to the current look of skate shoes that pretty much look like what came out in 1966. I was very fortunate to find a copy of the second edition for an amazing price and found it impossible to put this down. I encourage anyone, from skater to collector, to give this a look.

This Is What I've Been Busy With

Self-explanatory. School sucks. I'll try my best to be on time in October, folks.

Blue Tile Lounge x Cohiba Complete

An unfortunate thing happened a few days ago and prompted me into purchasing a new complete from Blue Tile Lounge. Based on Cohiba Cigars packaging, I was definitely amped on the artwork by Corey Gibbs and a custom sticker job by yours truly.

Deck: 8 1/4" x 32" BTL x Cohiba
Trucks: 147 Thunder HI
Grip: Mob
Hardware: 7/8" Shake Junt

Wheels: 52mm Pin Wheels

Morgan Smith

A few days ago, I tripped down to Blue Tile Lounge and had the privelege of meeting Toronto local and Blind's newest pro; Morgan Smith! He was a totally chill dude still trying to take in the stardom with as much humbleness as he could. It was great chatting with him and he even signed at sticker for my brother. Stoked.

Snapback Saturday x Off The Hook

It has been ages since I last did a Snapback Saturday post, but it's totally worth it. What you are seeing is a rare item straight outta Quebec's Off The Hook clothing store. Made by Quintin Co., this was part of The Ko-Op series with other Canadian clothing stores. Much thanks to my brother for finding this for me. Apparently it was the last one.

The hat bears the logo of the Montreal Royals, the minor league team of the Brooklyn Dodgers between 1939-60. Paying homage to one of the most historic baseball teams of all time, OTH and Quintin Co. did their own spin on the colours using a dark navy as opposed to their traditional royal blue. Embroidered on the back is "1946," the year baseball's colour line was broken when Jackie Robinson played that one season with the club.

In Canada, we have these one minute history videos depicting a major moment that happened in our country and even to an extent of how it changed the world. Among them was Jackie Robinson's debut with the Montreal Royals.

Vintage Transworld & Thrasher Magazines

I tripped down to Switch yesterday afternoon and noticed a massive box of classic skate magazines. Rob was nice enough to let me take a bunch and I grabbed the ones with the best covers. I really wish skateboarding stood still in 2003. That Transworld on the upper left is from 1994 binded by staples. It's as classic as classic gets!

Blog On This

Happy August everyone. I chose to have the highlight of July grace the top of the blog for the next month. Still stoked to have met Jamie Thomas. Chomp on that!

Pittsburgh Pirates x Roberto Clemente [1971-1972]

Welcome to my latest post for Jersey Sunday. On hand is my Pittsburgh Pirates Roberto Clemente road uniform by Cooperstown Majestic. This is something I've wanted to have for a long time. The jersey was bought as a blank online and was crested by Pickering Pro Image.

It was a no-brainer as to who I wanted on the back of this jersey. Roberto Clemente is definitely one of, if not, the greatest Buc of all time. This one had to be special and I was very stoked to see how well the twill matched the trim perfectly.

Finding the matching fitted cap is a struggle - but I was able to easily find the matching Cooperstown snapback at a very generous price at an outlet store.

Born in Carolina, Puerto Rico on 18 August 1934, Robert Clemente Walker made his Pirates debut in 1955. Although it took writers much time to realize how great he'd turn out to be, it wasn't until he won his first World Series title in 1960 where he'd become one of the best players on the grass and one of the most loved individuals outside of Forbes Field due to his charitable contributions.

In the winter of 1972, he boarded a plane to Nicaragua with medical supplies to a city in ruins after an earthquake. Unfortunately, the plane did not make it to South America and his body was never found. He was declared dead on 31 December 1972. Not only will he be remembered as a baseball player, but as a humanitarian. Through special election, he was posthumously inducted into The National Baseball Hall Of Fame in the spring of 1973.

Career Highlights, Honours, and Awards:
2x World Series Champion [1960, 1971], World Series MVP [1971], National league MVP [1971], 15x MLB All-Star [1960-1972], 12x Gold Glove Award Winner [1961-1972]. National Baseball Hall Of Fame Inductee [1972], jersey #21 retired by the Pittsburgh Pirates in his honour.
In 9474 at bats, he belted 240 home runs with a .317 average. He also became a member of the 3000 hits club on the last day of the regular season in 1972.
In 1973, The Commissioner's Award, usually handed out to the baseball player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team" was renamed The Roberto Clemente Award.
Outside of PNC Park, a bronze statue of Clemente stands on a platform bearing "The Great One" on the base. Furhtermore, Pittsburgh's 6th Street Bridge was renamed The Roberto Clemente Bridge.

"I want to be remembered as a ballplayer who gave all I had to give." - Roberto Clemente

Zero x Mystery x The Moose Is Loose Canada Tour

Yesterday afternoon, the Zero and Mystery Skateboards team held a demo at Ashbridges Bay park in Toronto. It was probably one of the best demos I've ever seen since these dudes are so gnarly! Check out these pics from that epic Sunday.

Unfortunately for John Rattray, he snapped his arm 2 days before the demo and I was really amped to see him skate. But he was very chill and didn't mind chatting for a good long while.

Great Canadian content right here with BC's Keegan Sauder [left] and Alberta's Jamie Tancowny [right].

The only action shot I got all day was of Keegan Sauder noebelunt-stalling a 4ft wall with ease.

Garrett Hill really stood out at the demo with massive pop down the stairs.

Here I am with my brother Tim with Jimmy Carlin [above] and Dane Burman [below].

The biggest highlight of this event was meeting one of our favourite pros of all time; Jamie Thomas. I really can't explain how amazing it was to have a picture with him or the experience of seeing him skate up front and up close.

I've had this 20 Ann'y Transworld since January '03 and to have him sign it is a blessing. I'm definitely not letting this one go!

Along with Tommy Sandoval [whom I met 3 times already], he also signed my copy of Ride The Sky. If I wasn't so forgetful, I'd have everyone's autograph. Still rad though.

I found this video early this morning. You can spot me at 1:19 when Garrett Hill nollie 50-50s the hubba.
The whole team all together delivered a demo with class signing everything in their direction and taking photos with nearly 300 fans. I really hope the Black Box Dist. team returns to Toronto.

Rolling Stones x Sticky Fingers x Exile On Main St.

I'm definitely going nuts on the classic rock in case ya haven't noticed, and was able to grab two of the many most loved The Rolling Stones albums. Sticky Fingers [1971] was listed at #63 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time releasing two hit singles; Wild Horses and Brown Sugar.

Brown Sugar feat. Tina Turner

Considered to be the band's best album to date, Exile On Main St. [1972] was listed at #7 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time releasing four hit singles; Tumbling Dice, Sweet Black Angel, Happy, and All Down The Line.

Gimme Shelter

Gimme Shelter is a documentary film released in 1970 covering the Altamont Free Concert that took place on 6 December 1969 headlined by The Rolling Stones. An event dubbed "The West Coast Woodstock," it was marred by violence and death ending the 60's hippie generation.

Buffalo Trip

This passed Sunday, my brother, mom, and I headed down to Niagara/Buffalo for some together time. We had a blast filled with wine tasting, ice cream, and shopping. Call me corny, but that's the fam - and doing something like this brought me back to those younger days road tripping across the border.

I was also able to find some pretty good tees with a sweet deal; BOGO 50% off! Two of these were much less than one in Toronto. A tee I really needed was The Rolling Stones "tongue and lips" logo. I can now cross that off the list.

The Rolling Stones x [I Can't Get No] Satisfaction

The second tee is The Ramones logo. Something I've wanted since I was 14. It had a misprint on the tag and, as a result, was given $3 off. Steal!

Looking back, I really should've bought a pair of shoes. 'Til next time, Buffalo.

New York Mets 1962-1986 25th Ann'y Patch

About a month ago, I bought the sleeve patch the New York Mets wore back in 1986 when they won the World Series. Earlier yesterday, I got back from the dry cleaners where they had stitched it on to my Gary Carter jersey. Check out the complete product here in the Jersey Sunday x Gary Carter [1985-1989] [redux] entry.

Another Brick in the Blog

Happy July everyone. I made this header a long time ago without any creativity. It should say the same thing as this post title - but I don't care. "Based" on the Pink Floyd album cover, the record itself and Roger Waters live concert is a classic. Hope you enjoy the first half of summer.
