Dennis Rodman's Jersey Retired in Motown

This passed Sunday, the Detroit Pistons organization announced they will retire the #10 in honour of their former small forward Dennis Rodman. The ceremony will take place on April 1 during halftime against his other former team and division rival Chicago Bulls. He helped the "Bad Boys" earn their first two NBA Championships in 1989 and 1990. His name and number will hang beside his teammates of those championship years, a much appreciated honour for a well-deserving player. Current Detroit Pistons player Greg Monroe currently wears no. 10 and will be allowed to do so, however, I feel he should give the number up.


Originally drafted 27th overall in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, Dennis Rodman played 7 seasons [549 games played] for the blue and red. He was also 2x Defensive Player of Year ['90, '91], 2x NBA All-Star ['90, '92], and 2x Rebounding Champion [18.7 RPG in 1992, 18.3 RPG in 1993].

Miami Dolphins x Dan Marino [1988-1992]

Welcome back to another edition of Jersey Sunday - the first one in a long while. I was thinking of posting this last week because it ties in with football and the Super Bowl, but I was too busy to conduct the research. Anyways, here is my Miami Dolphins Dan Marino uniform delivered right on time for Jersey Sunday.



This is a really old piece made by Champion I ordered online, I’m not exactly sure when this style was first used by the Miami Dolphins but I know they changed their look in 1997. The majority of images I could find of Dan Marino wearing this type of jersey were Wilson brand with the NFL logo on the collar. The numbers, name, and sleeve designs are screen printed and surprisingly still intact. Another slight difference from what was worn by the players is the space of aquamarine between the white and coral ink.


This cap was posted in a previous Snapback Saturday. I didn’t think I’d get a jersey to match with it, but I’m glad I do now.



Dan Marino was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the same city he would attend college between 1979-1983. As quarterback for the Pittsburgh Panthers, “Mr. Cool,” as he was known, led the team to a victory in the 1982 Sugar Bowl and an appearance in the 1983 Cotton Bowl Classic. That would be his final collegiate year as he would enter the 1983 NFL Draft.


Dan Marino was selected 27th overall in the 1983 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Five quarterbacks were selected before him, but history shows he was one of the ultimate steals. He started his first game six weeks into the season and scored a 96% pass rating – a rookie record. With a regular season record of 12-4, the Dolphins would come up short in the playoff run. He was, however, selected to his first Pro Bowl game and was the first rookie quarterback to start such an event.


In his sophomore season in the league, the young quarterback led the Dolphins to a 14-2 record, the AFC Conference Championship, and a trip to Super Bowl XIX where they would face Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Miami would come up short against the red, gold and white, 38-16. It would be Dan Marino's only appearance on football’s biggest stage.


His career would be a continuous roller coaster ride with many sub-par endings. Their record for the next 15 seasons was a mediocre 137-100 [.578] with seven playoff appearances and three AFC East Division Championships. Despite the lack of outstanding finishes, Dan Marino continued to dominate the record books for a quarterback such as most passing yards, most completions, and most touchdown passes.


He would put an end to his career right before the 2000 NFL season making the playoffs for one final time. His last win was a 20-17 victory against the Seattle Seahawks in the first round. His final game was a 62-7 second round loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It would make him one of the very few modern players to spend an entire career with one football club.

242 games played, 8358 attempts, 4967 completions, 61361 total yards, 420 TDs, 9x Pro Bowl selection [1983-87, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995], NFL MVP [1984], NFL Offensive Player of the Year [1984], NFL Comeback Player of the Year [1994], Walter Payton Man of the Year [1998], holder/sharer of 34 NFL records [as of his retirement in 2000], #27 on The Sporting News 100 Greatest NFL Players, #25 on The NFL Network’s Top 100 Greatest Players, College Football Hall of Fame inductee [2002], and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee [2005].
On September 17, 2000, the Miami Dolphins retired the #13 in his honour. His number is also retired by the Pittsburgh Panthers college football team.
After his son was diagnosed with autism, he started The Dan Marino Foundation, an organization to help benefit young children with neurological disorders.

Jordan 9.5 Team

Recently, it's been a blessing to have size 11.5/12 feet. Last month, I bought these for a very generous price from a local seller. Just a few days ago, I bought my first pair of Jordan brand sneakers the exact same way; the Jordan 9.5 Team.


Notable players to have customized these for their games are Ray Allen [during his days with the Seattle SuperSonics] and Gerald Wallace of the Charlotte Bobcats.


The Jordan 9.5 Team is a collective hybrid model, a cross between the Jordan IX [above] and the Jordan X [below]




However, I'd still do [almost] anything to own the Jordan XII.

LA Raiders Jacket x Starter

What you are looking at is a vintage Los Angeles Raiders hooded jacket by Starter. These branded jackets are one of the most coveted vintage clothing items amongst football and hip-hop fans with price tags ranging from $100-$200+. Owning this has a pretty weird story. I won it on eBay and after it was delivered to my doorstep, I realized I needed the money back. I was fortunate to sell it later that night. The next day, after scavenging Value Village, I saw the same jacket for less than half its original cost. No stains, snags, rips - it was a legitimate steal. I hope this doesn't become a new obsession.

Blog Street Bullies

My apologies for being way behind on the new blog header. Laziness and business has kept me off from being creative. Anyhow, since the Philadelphia Flyers are the best team in the league and they're my team away from home, I thought it would be most approprite to have the Broad Street Bullies grace the top of my website.


HBO produced a documentary titled Broad Street Bullies, which tells the story of the team during their infant years in the NHL. It's a beautifully pieced together movie and I encourage any hockey fan [or Philly hater] to check it out.

LA Lakers Warmup Jersey

Here is a Los Angeles Lakers warmup jersey made by Champion which was found between the racks of second-hand uniforms at... you guessed it - Value Village. It's not in the most pristine shapes, but for under $15, this is a steal. Definitely a rare item and is probably on a lot of "Want" lists out there for vintage collectors. It'll also look great with my other LA Lakers paraphernalia.


Champion was the league's apparel provider from the early 1990s to the 2003.


I'm thinking of having it crested or leave it as is and keep it authentic.

Stevie Williams on Supra Footwear

In recent skate news, DGK rider Stevie Williams is the newest addition to Supra Footwear. Click here for the interview with Transworld Skateboarding. It's been about 5 years since he's had a steady shoe sponsor. He seemed well in place on DC Shoes and released one of the best looking pro models, but left in a disastrous deal with Reebok. After that failed, a Jordan deal came through, which was already a predetermined accident. He released an ad with a pair of Nike SB Dunks - whom we all thought would take him in, but an Alife advertisement showed up a few months later. It looks like he's found a hopefully permanent home on Supra, but it is hard to register. I can't imagine him going on tour with these guys after forming a team like this. But it's skateboarding, it's meant for everybody and I'm totally amped on this news. I can't wait to see which styles he'll be skating in and what his pro model pair will look like. Supra All Day!

Speaking of Supra, Terry Kennedy is releasing a mid version of his first pro models called the Society Mid. Finally, a shoe of his that looks functional.

All-Star 91 x Converse

Seeing how I talked about these, I thought I'd make a post about another Dennis Rodman pro model Converse shoe. Way back in grade 5, my mom dropped a bundle to get me the All-Star 91s. They were the first shoes I've owned priced well above $100 and came with a free hat, poster and a temporary tattoo [which I lost]. My parents were the shit to get 'em for me at only 10 years old - so it has sentimental value on it. Not only that, I got the matching t-shirts, zip-up, and tear-aways [remember those?] that went along with these sneakers. A year later, a bunch of these went on sale at a National Sports, where they set out loose pairs on tables. My mom wanted to buy them for me again, but his off-court issues I've learned of made me steer clear of The Worm's direction and passed. Looking back, however, I wish I bought every pair in every size to wear everday of my life. These are my favourite basketball shoes of all time. If the Rodmans are ever reproduced, I'll be the first one in the store to grab them regardless of its price.







Word to the wise, if there are kicks that mean a lot to you - don't let 'em go.


Can you picture any other basketball player with these on? Only Dennis Rodman can get away with it.

Converse x D-Rod High

Today, I picked up one of the best gems in basketball sneakers - at least in my opinion. Here are a vintage pair of Dennis Rodman pro models by Converse. Someone was selling these online for $40 and it was an instant buy. I believe they came out in 1998 and were worn during the NBA Finals. For a set of kicks sitting around for almost 13 years, it's in tremendous shape.




These shoes also remind of the old Circa CM901 - a set of skate shoes I've only held in my dreams.

Angus VHS

Remember VHS? How those used to take up space on the shelves and had to be rewound before sliding them back in the box? Those were the days. Sixteen years from now, I'll probably be writing a reminiscent post about DVDs. Anyways, getting to the point, I just picked up a VHS copy of Angus at my favourite "vintage" outlet store; Value Village. I remember watching it on TV way back when I was 10 and became an instant fan. This has to be one of my favourite movies within the 1990s. It's one of those repeated tales about high school life which makes you root for the outcast protagonist. Redundant? Yes. Enjoyable? Absolutely. A movie you should definitely watch? With this soundtrack, of course! Angus - check it out. Be kind. Rewind.



Home release distribution rights have been in a legal tangle for nearly 15 years. A DVD copy is guaranteed to not be sold at those mall and chain stores. However, a made-to-order method can be arranged online. But according to reviews, it's just a dubbed tape onto a DVD-R. Lame, huh?

Darryl Boyce x Clarke MacArthur Signing

Today was another Maple Leafs signing at the Pickering Markets. Despite their lateness, I still had fun chatting it up with other fans in the lineup. I took a picture with Darryl Boyce, but couldn't squeeze one in with Clarke MacArthur. It was still awesome meeting the two and have them add their names to my pennant.

Westgate x Emerica

Celebrating the debut of his first pro model shoe for Emerica, Brandon Westgate releases an entirely new video part online. Perhaps they were Stay Gold leftovers, but regardless, it's nearly 4 minutes of mindblowing shredding.


His shoe doesn't look all that bad either - reminds me of this.

Sanchez Unseen

This video part makes me want to skate in an instant. After 10 years, this still amps me up today. It's unfortunate how Henry Sanchez has fallen away from the skateboard scene.

Jack Curtin on Fallen Footwear

This news is a bit old, but I'm still amped on it. Jack Curtin has not been on a footwear team in over 5 years. Glad to see Fallen appreciates his talents and gave him a roster spot considering one of their elite team riders dipped for a mall brand.


The year is only ten days old, and a lot of big things have happened already in skateboarding.

Chris Cole on DC Shoes

I'm not one to judge a pro skater's decision, but this is the whackest thing I've seen since this. Who knows what drove him to ride for a super brand like DC Shoes, but he did leave the shoe company which fit him best.


However, it really was the raddest thing to meet him back in 2008.

Arto Saari is now on Flip Skateboards... again. He left the team in 2008 for Alien Workshop, three years later, he's right back where he belongs. I love this move.
